The city of Toowoomba in Queensland’s south east is known as the garden city. It is located just over 100 kilometers from Brisbane and at the top of the Great Dividing Range. This gives the city a more temperate climate than its coastal counterparts. Toowoomba is the commercial center of a vast agricultural area and its service industries cater for the farming and mining communities that surround it. Toowoomba is located on the Warrego Highway and is the jumping off point for towns and cites to the west like Roma and Charleville.

Toowoomba is a cosmopolitan city with plenty of excellent shopping facilites. There are several suburban shopping plazas as well as a comprehensive commercial center in the citie’s CBD. The city is also home to its own university and there are several prominent grammar schools that have been established for over 100 years. Many of these have boarding facilities and are very popular with remote farmers to educate their children. Every spring Toowoomba is home to the festival of flowers and its temperate climate lends itself ideally to the creation of some magnificent flower displays. Toowoomba also has its own airport and is serviced by quantaslink. Many tourists flock to Toowoomba each year to take part in and experience the festival of flowers.

Toowoomba is also on the northern boundary of the famous Darling Downs agricultural area and there are many places of historical interest throughout the Downs and in Toowoomba for the tourist to visit. There is a lot of motel style accommodation on offer in Toowoomba but it is wise to book ahead as at certain times of the year this can be completely booked out.
